How to tell if your email account has been setup as a POP account:
---- in Thundbird click on your server setting and at the top of the window you will see "Server Type:" That is where it tells you if you have a POP account or IMAP
 
---- in Outlook when you click on change account settings the next window should show you "User Information" , "Server Information", and "Logon Information". Under "Server Information" you will see "Account Type", which tells you the type of account you have.
 
---- in Outlook Express when you click on "Properties", then on the "Server" tab you will see "My incoming mail server is a _____ server ", which tells you the type of account you have.
